I've got a TomTom Go 700, which I got as a gift about 3 years ago. It's still got the version of the maps it originally came with (Western Europe v606). I was thinking about trying to update these because I have noticed a few inaccuracies here and there, so I wonder whether this is due to the maps being a bit outdated. The sat nav is still in good working order so I don't really see the need to get a new one at the moment.though it is bulkier than some of the new ones on the market these days, but that's technology for you lol. So does anyone know where I can either download more recent maps for the device for free or relatively cheap? I don't mind paying for them if it doesn't cost not too much and they don't get outdated too quickly. I've been on the TomTom website and v8.30 for Europe is being sold for £69.95.

I was going to check everything now with the TomTom software on my computer because I haven't for a while.but I don't seem to have the cable now so I've had to buy a new one! So it will be a few days before I get it lol. But from memory I think all it did was update the software on the TomTom device not the actual maps otherwise I wouldn't still have the original version it was sold with because I have checked for updates in the past (though not recently). Maybe for your version or when you bought yours, you got a subscription to the map updates or something?

Still worth plugging it in - might be cheaper that going through the website? Someone posted a link to some free satnav software on here a while ago; i think it had different versions for various phones and satnavs. Try searching the forum, it shouldn't be too hard to find. ETA does it use a USB to mini-USB cable? If you have any of these lying around from other devices (digital cameras, PS3 controller charging) then they will work fine.
