Hi guys, I am pretty pleased with NTFS-3G. Finally i can transfer my files to a NTFS disk from Mac. So that is good news! Anyhow, the mounting time for the external HD is sometimes 3 to 5 minutes.

I just wait, no problem, but i cannot think that is normal mounting time. Could it be something wrong somehow? I would not like to fill the disk with info that could be in danger to be lost.

On the other hand, i could not improve the transfer rate speed. Still 1.3 Gb file will take around 45 minutes. I believe iMac white 2006 model does has hi-speed USB ports. I can transfer 1 Gb in 5 minutes maximun to a regular USB external HD, Mac formatted. Thanks for any info and Cheers! Sebastian Wed Feb 18, 2009 13:42. I have never heard of any case where the actual mount process takes more than a few seconds. Simple Minds 5x5 Live Rapidshare Downloads.

Even with my slow USB stick. Could you try this with caching turned off, and record your mounting/transfer times? (Uncheck the checkbox 'File system caching enabled' and remount your disk.) An observation of the read speed of the raw device would also be of interest. For instance if your NTFS partition is mapped to disk1s1, then the following command will read 128 MiB from its device and show a summary of the time spent reading it, and the transfer rate. The strange thing is the iMac says i have a High Speed USB port 480 Mb/s for the integrated iSight Web Cam.it does not mention any other High Speed USB port. Maybe it has no one for external connection. It should have three high speed USB ports according to this article: The only USB 1.1 ports would be those on the keyboard. If your ports won't work in USB2 mode the problem may be with the cable, the hard disk or with your mac. Maybe an Apple support forum can help you then. - Erik Wed Feb 18, 2009 16:04. 12 Mbit/s is USB1 speed.

A USB2 high speed connection is supposed to be 480 Mbit/s. (I think the 'Mb/s' displayed in the screenshot is actually meant as 'Mbit/s'.) Yes, Mb/s is Mbit/sec, the disk is connected via USB1 mode, so the slow results are the expected ones. Download Drama I Hear Your Voice Sub Indonesia. It would be nice to detect this somehow.

Many people blame the NTFS-3G driver because of such USB problems. Please also note that USB is an inefficient protocol and even if the USB bus speed is 480 Mbit/sec (60MB/s), the typical, user observable transfer speed is only maximum 30-35 MB/sec during real world use. Wed Feb 18, 2009 16:08.

Thanks for the info Szanka! Anyhow, i just downloaded Mactracker, a free App which will tell you anything that any Mac created has (picture attached). It says all my USB ports are High speed or 480 Mb/s. Also somebody at an Apple forum just verified that info is correct. I donĀ“t know why the systems preferences says USB 1. The only thing left is either the cable or the disk. It is somehow weird the brand new disk use a slow protocol.

By the way, far from me to blame NTFS-3G, which is a very usefull app. However, is the same USB port i do connect all my others external HD which i do get fast transfer rate.

Cheers, Sebasitan. I just plugged in the PC and it did mounted in a second. Anyhow it told me that i should connected to a fast USB Port, the device is OK to go faster. What is that? I will google it.

That means you have exactly the same problem with your PC as with the Mac, the drive isn't connected in USB2 mode, but in legacy 12 Mbit/s USB1 mode. I think that your 'Blusens' multimedia case is to blame for your problems since the problem occurs on two separate computers, even using different operating systems (provided that you have tested different cables, and that you're sure that the PC's USB ports are USB2 compatible). The hard drive case seems to have problems negotiating a USB2 connection to any computer. You should get it replaced, preferably replacing it with an equivalent product from a more well known brand.:) Thu Feb 19, 2009 04:34.
